How Would You Spend £162,000 on Public Open Spaces in Ottery St Mary parish?

Residents, community groups, and organisations in the Parish of Ottery St Mary are invited to submit their ideas on how £162,000 should be spent on improving public open spaces.

Section 106 funds are contributions that developers make as part of the agreement for housing developments in Ottery. The funds can only be used for specific purposes.

Ottery St Mary Town Council and East Devon District Council are  committed to ensuring that local residents and organisations have a direct say in how the money is spent.

The funding can be used for a variety of projects, ranging from the creation of brand new facilities to enhancing existing facilities including parks, play areas, community orchards, sports pitches and associated equipment, allotments, multi-use games areas, skate parks, pump tracks, trim trails and lots more!

Guidelines for Submitting Proposals:

  • Proposals must be for new or improved facilities.
  • Only permanent facilities and equipment will be considered (e.g. football goals, tennis courts, or training areas). Funds cannot be used for portable equipment.
  • The proposed facilities must be open and accessible to the public. A modest fee may be charged, but it must be affordable.
  • The funding cannot be used for buildings, indoor sports facilities, professional sports grounds.

All proposals should be submitted to Ottery St Mary Town Council by noon, 27th February 2025. Submissions should include your name, contact details, a brief description of your idea, and an estimate of the funding required, if possible. There’s no need to submit a fully developed plan; a simple paragraph outlining your idea is sufficient. The council may contact you if more details are needed.

Once the deadline for submissions has passed, Ottery St Mary Town Council will work with East Devon District Council to assess eligibility and feasibility of all the proposals There will then be another opportunity for the community to review the shortlist of projects to determine which projects will be selected for funding. Deputy Mayor, Councillor John Green said “It’s vital that residents have a say in how these funds are allocated, particularly as new developments have been built in their area. I would encourage everyone in Ottery St Mary to share their ideas for public open space projects. This is a real opportunity to help shape the way forward for the town. Your input can have a real impact, and by contributing your suggestions, you can help ensure that the funding is directed towards the projects that are most important to the community.”
