Volunteer Community Emergency Response Team members sought

The Ottery St Mary Town Council Emergency Plan Working Group has been formed to create the Emergency Plan document and form a team to implement the plan should an emergency arise.

The team consists of Councillors Williamson, Aherne and Faithfull, supported by the Town Clerk .  As part of this the Councillors met at the Council offices to audit the emergency boxes to see what is missing and what new items are required.

The emergency boxes are kept within the community and include items such as wind-up torches, lanterns and radios, air horn, whistles, first aid kits, protective wear and fluorescent jackets for the volunteers.

We are looking for volunteer Community Response Team members who will help coordinate and implement the plan.  The volunteers will need to live in the area and willing and able to offer support to their community during an emergency.  They will be part of the local hub, communicating between households and the authorities.

This should help the parish meet any future emergencies in a more organised and coordinated way and not rely on ad hoc help from individuals.

If you would like to volunteer or need more information about the role, then please contact the Town Clerk at the Council offices via email admin@otterystmary-tc.gov.uk or telephone 01404 812252.
